When you work from home like I often do, it can be very easy to fall into the habit of surpassing the whole ‘getting dressed’ thing. I’ve been down that rabbit hole. I’m downplaying it when I say I’ve taken my fair share of Skype video meetings with hair, makeup, a nice shirt and necklace on top, and old pyjama pants on bottom.
While this can be awesome on some days, I’ve found that letting myself have too many sweatpants days can also keep me from performing at my best. This is a lesson I learned well from my Grandmother, who always dressed to the nines, no matter what she was doing. There’s something about getting up in the morning and dressing in an outfit that you consider a power outfit that really helps me take on the day.
Not only does how I dress help keep me focused, but it’s also a form of self-respect. It’s a way to remind myself that I deserve to look my best. And it’s empowering in the sense that I always try to dress like the woman I aspire to be – and am.
With this concept in mind, I will be donating 10% of any sales made from my blog both today and tomorrow, to Dress for Success, a nonprofit that is near and dear to my heart, and that allows women to achieve self-sufficiency through an incredible support network, including professional attire, and developmental tools. And ShopStyle will match 100% of whatever I contribute. So if there’s any time to shop, now is the time.
